Where Are All The Hurricanes??

Hello Thinkers!

Yes it has been a while since I have posted my sanguine prose. I could bore you with my reasons why, a la slimeball sexual predator Mark Foley (R-FL):

- I was abused as a child by the parish priest
- I am a victim of alcoholism
- I struggle with inner demons

Or like any respectable Kennedy (I know... oxymoron) who realizes at least some of these excuses are getting passe, I could blame the prescription meds. Sadly, I've just been too busy to do little more than yell at the TV.

And it's not like there hasn't been anything to discuss either. Let's see, we have North Korea testing nuclear devices - maybe. We have the first blasts in the unofficial 2008 presidential campaign between Hillary Clinton and John McCain. And locally, we have a fabulously interesting race for Governor in the People's Republic of Massachusetts which includes a woman as the Republican candidate running against a black male Democrat. If Healy (R) wins, she would be the first woman to be elected into the state's corner office. What do local women's organizations think about this? No need to guess on this one, Deval Patrick (D) has already picked up the endorsements of Planned Parenthood, NARAL and NOW - you go girls! Smooth talking Deval (a Clinton appointee as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights) is taking some heat for his legal escapades prior to this race. Deval either lied about, or completely forgot, details of his correspondence with a convicted rapist trying to get parole. Also as a criminal defense attorney, he was successful in getting the death sentence of a Florida cop-killer overturned (who is now eligible for parole). Then there's that whole in-state tuition thing for illegal aliens that Deval wants me to pay for. It'll be an interesting November.

On the national side, apparently Harry Reid had been caught with his hand in the cookie jar of organized crime and tasty Las Vegas real estate deals.

THE BEST CASE for Senate Minority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) is that he was sloppy about financial disclosure rules in accounting for a real estate deal on which he made a $700,000 profit. The more unattractive case is that the senator's inaccurate description of the investment was an effort to disguise his partnership with a Las Vegas lawyer who's never been charged with wrongdoing but whose name has surfaced in federal investigations involving organized crime, casinos and political bribery since the 1980s.

Hopefully Harry won't get sucked in if a Pelosi-led House decides to "drain the swamp." But all of these juicy topics must be swept aside as again I focus on "The Scam of the Century."

GLOBAL WARMING UPDATE!!

Yes folks, even as I write this, the US midwest and Great Lakes region is in the fiery grasp of GLOBAL WARMING! Buffalo, NY has reported 14 inches of snow at the airport and over 2 feet of the white stuff in other parts of the region. Temperatures in Chicago are barely above freezing. Most of Michigan is under a "snow and blowing snow" advisory.

We are not even halfway through October!

All of this had me thinking about the predictions for the 2006 hurricane season that were made several months ago. Remember them? I seem to recall projected 2006 hurricane tracks going right through New York City and New England. AccuWeather forecaster Joe Bastardi said "The Northeast is staring down the barrel of a gun."

Doom and gloom! Fire and brimstone! Such were the forecasts for the US and the most densely populated areas on the east coast:

"As bad as Katrina was, it can be worse," an expert at National Hurricane Center warned. "We expect there to be six landfalling storms this year along the Gulf and Atlantic Coast and the East Coast certainly looks to be at the highest risk of just about anyone," an Accuweather.com Meteorologist told *CBS News*.

Well? Where the hell are they? Now mind you, I'm not complaining about a lack of storm related destruction. However, if the "experts" blow a forecast for major storms over a 6 month period, I am not going to believe them when they say that "global warming" is going to destroy our planet over the next century. I am especially not going to believe these claims when their most stalwart chicken-little spokesperson (AKA Al Gore) continues to rape the land, invest in Big Oil, and piss through fossil fuels in his 10,000 sq ft home in Tennessee.

Yet there are enough people out there sheepishly willing to accept the claims of "experts" who state that any deviation from the meteorological average is a clear sign of human induced "global warming." Do they believe that the planet is on some central thermostat that keeps atmospheric anomalies and natural weather trends at bay?

While the weather may never be predictable, politicians obsessed with money, power, or congressional pages certainly are.
